Monica was a priority recruit to the position of Director of the Nurse Practitioner Programs at Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing in 2009. She held this position for 10 years, stepping away to focus on teaching and her program of research. Innovations and nurse practitioner program development during this tenure included:
- Integration of standard learning plans and clinical portfolios in 2010
- Enhancement to remote teaching strategies and the virtual classroom beginning in 2011
- Inception and development of the Primary Health Care – Global Health area of emphasis into the Master of Nursing (MN) and Post-Master Nurse Practitioner Field of Study Programs (with approval from the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario) in 2011
- Curriculum mapping strategies that tracked changes in nurse practitioner scope of practice; with subsequent course revisions in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017
- Integration of ProctorU, an on-line proctoring system used to maintain integrity of on-line nurse practitioner examinations, in 2013
- Approval of the MN (NP Field, Paediatrics) and the Post-Master NP (Paediatrics) Programs by the Paediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB, the largest independent paediatric nursing certification organization in the United States). This was the first Canadian program to receive PNCB approval
- Virtual Interactive Case (VIC) development; funded by the University of Toronto and the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing (2014-2016)
- Incorporation of controlled drugs and substances into NP curriculum (with approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario in September 2017)
- Comprehensive MN (NP Field of Study) and Post-Master NP program review (with approval and a full 7-year accreditation granted by the College of Nurses of Ontario in December 2018)

Monica is also Core Faculty in the Collaborative Program in Resuscitation Science, Division of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
